The company offered for sale has developed an innovative and high tech gadget to manage the screen time of children in a responsible and educational way. It is a virtual and interactive hourglass that gives children direct responsibility over how they want to use their screen time. The gadget is a unique technical concept that is user friendly and easy to use, which is based on the principle ‘do it yourself, learn it yourself’. The trademark as well as how the product functions and operates has been patented in Europe, the United States of America, Canada and Australia. It is a unique concept and there is no comparable product available in the (international) market.

The process
The development process has been completed and it is ready to hit the market. They are looking for a (strategic) partner that is able to roll-out and further commercialise this innovative and high tech gadget on a global scale. At the moment the gadget is produced and assembled in the Netherlands. The company is currently located in The Netherlands. The activities of the company can be easily moved to another location. 

The product
We live in a digital world in which screens have become a more and more important part of our lives. Children nowadays spend a lot of time in front of a screen. Instead of turning off screens and routers, the creator came up with an educational solution for children with which they can learn to organise their screen time themselves and at the same time take their own responsibility in this respect. The goal is together with the corresponding application, to facilitate clear ‘agreements’ between parents and children about the allowed daily and weekly screen time. With this new concept the parents can manage the screen time together with their children. The concept is based on three objectives/principles:

  • Share responsibility;
  • Create awareness of how many hours per day the child spends in front of a screen;
  • Stimulate mandatory breaks.

Particularities
Parents can add the agreements to the corresponding application and monitor them, while the children take responsibility over the device. Children will learn to deal with their maximum daily screen time in an educational manner as well as that it creates awareness. It has been designed in such a way that children of all ages can easily use it:

  • Robust and solid design;
  • Compatible with all screens;
  • Bluetooth connection with the application;
  • No buttons.

Key facts
The gadget was officially launched (“pilot”) and offered for sale at the beginning of 2022 via the own product website and via one of the largest webshops in the Netherlands (as a reseller). Since the start of the sales the company currently has sold approximately 250 devices in total (‘organic sales’), with very minimum marketing and promotional activites/efforts. The devices were sold directly to consumers in countries all over the world, such as The Netherlands, Belgium, the USA, the United Kingdom, France as well as other countries. The target group can be defined as childeren in the age of 5 to 12 years. For the patented regions (as mentioned above) the market potential currently amounts to over 100 million childeren (based on the target group)! 

Transaction
The transaction is preferably a 100% share transaction. The current shareholder is willing to assist the potential acquirer with a “soft landing” and to ensure a proper transfer of the activities, knowledge and know-how. 

Reason for sale and prospective buyer
As mentioned earlier, it is ready to hit the market and are looking for a partner that has the knowledge, abilities, commercial skills and (distribution) network to roll-out and commercialise the concept on a global scale. Furthermore, the founder is currently developing a new non-competing product and he does not have the focus and ambition to further commercialise this gadget, since his greatest passion and motivation is to develop new products instead of selling them. The gadget offers enormous business opportunities for strategic buyers in the gaming, entertainment, media, healthcare and (educational) toy industry. Furthermore, it will be a boost for a company’s image from a social point of view as well as having a positive impact on the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) score.
